Introduction
Drift in Cayman Ltd. ("Drift," "we," "our," or "us") operates a peer-to-peer community technology platform that connects independent individuals who wish to share private carpool arrangements within the Cayman Islands. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and services.
Information We Collect
Personal Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Name and email address
- Phone number
- Profile photo (optional)
- Date of birth (to verify minimum age: 16+ for riders, 21+ for drivers)
- Payment information (processed securely via Stripe)
Driver Information
If you register as a driver (must be 21+), we additionally collect:
- Valid Cayman Islands driver's license
- Vehicle registration and insurance documentation
- Background check information
- Bank account details for receiving cost-sharing contributions
Location Data Collection
Foreground Location
When the app is open, we collect your location to:
- Show nearby available drivers on the map
- Calculate suggested routes and cost-sharing contributions
- Provide turn-by-turn navigation during trips
- Match you with drivers based on GPS proximity
Background Location
During active trips only, we collect location data even when the app is in the background or your screen is off. This enables:
- Trip Safety Sharing: Share your real-time location with trusted contacts (friends, family) who can monitor your trip via a web link
- Accurate ETAs: Provide accurate arrival time updates to other users
- Navigation: Allow drivers to receive turn-by-turn directions even with the screen off
- Trip Records: Record trip routes for safety and dispute resolution
When Location Collection Stops
Background location collection automatically stops when:
- A trip is completed or cancelled
- A driver goes offline
- You log out of the app
Your Control Over Location Data
You can disable background location access in your device settings at any time. However, this may limit safety features like trip sharing. Foreground location is required for core app functionality.
How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Facilitate connections between users for private carpool arrangements
- Process cost-sharing contributions through our secure payment system
- Communicate with you about trips and account updates
- Provide safety features including trip tracking and SOS functionality
- Investigate and resolve disputes between users
- Comply with legal obligations
- Detect and prevent fraud

Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information or location data to advertisers or data brokers.
We may share your information with:
- Other Users: Riders see driver name, photo, vehicle info, rating, and real-time location during trips. Drivers see rider name, photo, rating, and pickup/destination.
- Contacts You Choose: When you share a trip, selected contacts can view your real-time location via a secure web link.
- Service Providers: Companies that help us operate (payment processing via Stripe, cloud hosting via Firebase/Google Cloud, mapping services) under strict confidentiality agreements.
- Law Enforcement: When required by valid legal process (subpoena, court order) under Cayman Islands law.
- Safety Emergencies: If we believe disclosure is necessary to prevent harm.
Cost-Sharing Payments
For the safety and protection of all users, Drift requires all cost-sharing contributions to be processed through our secure in-app payment system. This policy:
- Protects drivers from non-payment disputes
- Protects riders from price changes after agreement
- Eliminates cash-related safety risks
- Provides documented transaction records for dispute resolution
A 20% platform service fee is applied to cover payment processing (~4%) and platform maintenance costs (~15%).

We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL)
- Secure cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud/Firebase)
- Access controls and authentication
- PCI compliance for payment processing
- Regular security assessments
Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Trip history is retained for safety, dispute resolution, and legal purposes. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
Age Requirements
- Riders: Must be at least 16 years old (legal age in Cayman Islands)
